Villiers 32A Chaincase oil quantity

Post by Geoff Lewis »

Hi All, Does any one know the oil quantity required for the clutch and primary chain case for a Villiers 32A? My Vibsa has the slim cases but not the real slim invicar type. Is one particular oil better than another for these engines? I was going to use ATF. I have a very comprehensive workshop manual however it does not mention these particular matters. Thanks.

Hi Geoff I have always used ATF. I have a level plug towards the bottom of the primary case., so poured in filler hole, until dribbles out level plug. I will look to see if I have something written down.
Also have a look here.

Thanks hillbilly, There is two bolts one at the bottom, obviously the drain plug and one, not all that much higher which I thought could not possibly be the level plug. As you say if this is the level plug, the case could only hold 75mls or so. In other words the oil is to lubricate the primary chain and the clutch plates essentially run dry, yes. Thanks for the info.
Regards, Geoff.

Hi Geoff, lower plug lug, drain. one on left lug, fill level. ( In the pic, the bolts are not Tapped. )
The oil is flicked onto the clutch plates by the chain, as they come out, when you pull it apart, with oil all over them.
I get my engine spares from Villiers Services, found them very helpful and quick over the years.
